I previously worked for 5 years for Shell as a Production Technologist. It sounds very fancy doesn't it? To boil it down it was basically to make sure that the wells are producing as much oil and gas as safely possible. If a well was not producing enough, or at all, it was my job to analyse why and to find a solution to make it produce again. I also worked on designing and starting up new wells.
Even if I realise that the world still needs oil and gas to function, it still felt like I was working for something that was not building towards the future (and everyone you ever meet will also be more than happy to argue with you why you are a bad person and what you are doing is harming the world. It is especially interesting having these conversations with people in airplanes going to far-flung destinations on vacation "just for a short week".)
So it was time for me to find something that would motivate me more. And app development was the idea that stuck with me the most. I have done some programming in University while I was taking my Masters, so I hoped I would still have it in me. The mobile industry is an interesting and dynamic industry that I want to be part of as well.
I started with an iOS Bootcamp at the App Academy here in Amsterdam. I loved it from the first day and there were many long nights coding. After finishing it I also got the opportunity to join their first Android Bootcamp which I accepted. Being a iPhone user privately it took some convincing that I wanted to also learn how to make apps for Android, but in the end I am thrilled that I did it. Knowing both systems and learning more about coding was great.
I also enjoy very much the prototyping and user interface design of app. The combination of the creativity of visualising an app and making the design and the analytical and logical structuring of the code to make that design work is what I enjoy most with app development.

I've gotten a few questions about the name DonkeyMonkey, so thought I would elaborate quickly. It is basically an endearing name for my boyfriend when he says something stupidly funny. Endearing you probably question, but you would have to know the full back story. Let's just that say it involves a safari, zebras, donkeys, monkeys and a confused Dutchie.
